ABB recorded a net loss of USD 79 million in the fourth quarter. Over the full year 2020, the industrial group made a profit of USD 5.15 billion, notably through the sale of its electrical networks division. ABB is now organized into four divisions: Electrification (infrastructure for electric vehicles, solar inverters, etc.); Process Automation (control, measurement and analysis systems); Motion (electric motors and generators); Robotics & Discrete Automation (robots and artificial intelligence applied to industrial processes). The group is therefore very well placed to take advantage of major trends such as the electrification of transports and the digitization of the economy. However, since ABB’s activities are strongly linked to the investment cycles of the global economy, they were heavily impacted by the crisis in 2020. The situation should gradually improve in 2021, but management recognizes that the visibility remains limited.
