Plastic food packaging is difficult to recycle because it must meet strict criteria to be accepted to come into contact with food. Nestlé wants to improve this situation and will launch a market for recycled food plastic. The company is committed to buying up to 2 million tons of recycled plastics, and has allocated more than CHF 1.5 billion to finance a premium over virgin plastic. Nestlé has also created a CHF 250 million investment fund to finance companies active in sustainable packaging.

Nestlé also committed to using 100% recyclable packaging by 2025 and to achieving a carbon neutral footprint by 2050.
