Bad luck continues to stick to the wheels IAM Cycling. Two weeks after finishing in 2nd place in the Matteotti Trophy behind his friend and teammate Sebastien Reichenbach, Johann Tschopp broke his left collarbone in the third stage of the Tour de l’Ain.

A member of the decisive breakaway with Sébastien Reichenbach, the 31 year old climber from Miège fell heavily on the descent of the col de Menthières.

As the first man leading the group down, the rider from the Valais could blame no one but himself for overshooting a tight left-hand curve.

Cared for by the medical service staffed at the race, Johann Tschopp received additional first aid at the Oyonnax hospital where he was diagnosed with a fracture of the left clavicle in three places.

In the evening, the unfortunate IAM Cycling rider was on his way to the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG), where he will undergo surgery tomorrow.
