After having had Pirmin Lang in a breakaway for 120 kilometers and then seeing the return of Marcel Wyss to the highest levels by placing a strong 24th, IAM Cycling can feel that they have proved themselves once again at the 77th edition of the Flèche Wallonne.

Directeur Sportif  Kjell Carlström admitted he was quite satisfied with the result.

“Once again the team has risen to the highest level of our profession.  We won a place in the main breakaway, as we had planned to do in the morning meeting, thanks to Pirmin Lang.  And then there were still three of us up at the front with Wyss, Denifl and  Reichenbach racing up the Mur with the first group.  We achieved our goals while allowing our young riders to gain valuable experience with the best riders in the world.”

For his part, Marcel Wyss welcomed his return to center stage racing among the best.

“I said before the start of the race, I would be happy with a top 20.  I made it to 24th and have every reason to be happy because I was well placed at the foot of the Mur.  Actually, I missed my goal by not very much.  It is especially encouraging because I started the race not feeling great, but as we went along, I started feeling better and better.”

Meanwhile, Sébastien Reichenbach was successful in his first start of a World Tour event; he finished in 46th place 1’01” behind surprise winner Danilo Moreno (Katusha), after having been in the first group at the bottom of the Mur.

“It was my first race at this level and I savored every moment.  I was very happy to be in the first group when we hit the Mur for the last time.  I could check the difference in the pace and progress of the other riders, and know what it takes to hope to play for the win.”
