Both the Swiss National Time Trial and Road Race Championships have been marked in capital letters by IAM Cycling on their season calendar.

On Wednesday, June 19th, and Sunday, June 23rd, the Swiss will battle for the national time trial and road champions in Satigny, close to Geneva and in the heart of the Swiss wine growing.

Racing in the center of the Geneva countryside, so close to the headquarters of Michel Thétaz’s IAM SA (IAM Investment Funds), the riders on IAM Cycling will be determined to put in their absolute best performances.

First up will be the individual time trial on Wednesday, June 19th, where Marcel Wyss, Reto Hollenstein and Martin Elmiger will try to conquer the single round of the 19 kilometer loop.

IAM Cycling’s Directeur Sportif Marcello Albasini believes his riders have a good chance at success.

“The course is difficult.  That makes me think that any three of our riders is capable of finishing on the podium, even if Cancellara takes the start.”

On Sunday, June 23rd, the road race will be held over a 12 kilometer loop, which the pack will cover sixteen times.

Undoubtedly repeated efforts of the Choully climb will cause some sore legs and damaged hopes.  Again Marcello Albasini has big ambitions for his riders.

“We will be riding on home roads, and everyone will be watching us to control the race.  IAM Cycling will have the target on our backs, but I refuse to put untoward extra pressure on the guys.  On the contrary, my job will be to help them keep everything in perspective.  With nine riders on the starting line, we will be watched as closely as milk on a stove, and the other teams will do all they can to put us in difficulty.  The ideal result would be for us to have the same sort of success we had at the Tour of Bern on May 4th, where Marcel Wyss won.  But we must remember that the Swiss National Championships seldom flow along logical lines.  It also takes a little luck.  In fact, that is more the rule than the exception.  Not only that, the BMC Racing team will also have multiple riders among the participants.  That means that the scenario of the race will be difficult to predict ahead of time.”
