His dream came true when the break passed through the first PMU sprint at Pieterlen.

Matthias Brändle, again a member of the main breakaway, this time with Johnny Hoogerland and Marcus Burghardt as companions, took first place in the points jersey sprint and as a result pocketed the necessary points to take over the Green Jersey at the finish in Granges.

Ramunas Navardauskas’ (Garmin) stage win made no difference to the overall standing in the points classification.  Under the hot sun around Granges, The 23 year old Austrian enjoyed reaping this reward.

“After having been in the breakaway yesterday, I was even more determined to build on the points I had to get this distinctive jersey.  So I did everything I could to sneak into the break today.  And I succeeded.  This is a great reward for me, but also is good for the entire team since we are working so hard for our leaders.  I certainly hope to defend the jersey till the end of the Tour of Romandie.  This is not the first time I have worn the jersey, though, since I also won the points classification in the 2011 Tour of Romandie.”

While Matthias Brändle spent his day working hard in the break, the rest of the IAM Cycling riders devoted themselves to keeping Johann Tschopp protected and out of danger.

As a result, the man from the Valais region reached the finish safely.

“I spent a relatively quiet day in the saddle.  The heat and the sun still kept us company.  I had to be careful on the run in to the finish since final climb was a real leg-breaker.  The guys were a great help.   And we were able to stake a claim to leading one of the classifications thanks to Matthias Brändle’s ride in the escape group today.”
