Serge Beucherie, Sport Manager: «Maintaining our momentum»

IAM Cycling is continuing to make its presence felt in the professional peloton.

Though the team was not invited to the Tour de France or the Vuelta à Espagna, the enthusiasm of the riders and management has not been dampened.

Having just arrived on the international stage at the beginning of this year, the Swiss Pro Continental team founded by Michel Thétaz, CEO of IAM SA (IAM Investment Funds), still succeeded in performing very well at the Tour of Romandie.

Matthias Brändle won the points classification as well as the award for the most combative rider by virtue of his powering multiple breakaways throughout the week.

Marcel Wyss finished 10th overall while IAM Cycling finished in 4th place in the team standings.  Then at the Four Days of Dunkirk, they showed their depth by winning the team classification for that stage race.

Though some tweaking will be needed after the 2013 season, and preparations for 2014 are already in sight, Team Manager Serge Beucherie emphasized that IAM Cycling has achieved encouraging results since the end of the classics.

Serge Beucherie, did the Four Days of Dunkirk leave you feeling like the team under-performed?

By no means.  I even feel that we exceed our expectations.  Considering many of our riders were just coming off rest periods after the Flanderian classics, the results we achieved are anything but negative.  As proof, I can point to the fact that we even won the team classification.  This shows that we were not ineffective or inactive.  And at the same time, we were by far the strongest team at the Tour of Bern, with the victory by Marcel Wyss ahead of his three teammates: Sébastien Reichenbach, Rémi Cusin and Matthias Brändle.  I only hope we can keep this momentum.

Why are you going altitude training next week?

Well, we could not take the whole team to the Tour of Norway, and since we were not invited to the Tour of Picardie, we decided to organize this training camp to help the rest of the squad keep fit.  We did not want to leave the guys on the own at home.  This will give the riders the opportunity to prepare for the Tour of Bavaria (22-26 May) in the best conditions possible.  So we can go to both Norway and Bavaria looking for results.
